Claude's iOS app tests a new side nav redesign

Claude for iOS is testing another interface redesign that puts Chats, Projects, and Code into separate tabs along a side navigation bar. Other options like Dispatch and Personal Finance have been tucked away into the profile menu, shifting away from the previous bottom bar layout.

AI labs are still figuring out what their mobile apps should actually look like—a clean chatbot or a full-blown pocket workspace.

A sidebar built for power users

According to TestingCatalog, Claude for iOS is testing another interface redesign that shakes up its navigation. Instead of relying on a standard bottom bar, the new layout introduces a side navigation bar featuring Chats, Projects, and Code as dedicated, standalone tabs.

Secondary options like Dispatch and Personal Finance have been tucked into the profile menu to keep things tidy. Still, not everyone is sold on the change—TestingCatalog noted that the old bottom navigation felt a lot more natural to use on a phone.

Why it matters

Anthropic seems determined to turn Claude on mobile into more than just a quick conversational scratchpad. Giving Code and Projects their own top-level tabs brings the mobile experience much closer to the heavy-duty web app, which is great for developers checking on code or context-heavy workspaces on the go.

The catch is pure ergonomics. Bottom tabs exist on smartphones for a reason: they are easy to reach with one thumb. Hiding core navigation behind a side drawer might organize features better, but it adds extra taps for everyday users.
